as total tops 14,000..
Ontario is reporting 437 new cases of COVID-19 today as the total number
of people infected tops 14,000 in the province.
The increase in the number of new cases is the lowest in almost two weeks
indicating we may have started to turn the corner in the province.
Another 24 deaths were reported Sunday bringing the total to 835.
The total number of people infected with cornavirus stands at 14,432 while
the number of resolved cases has reached 8,000.
Provincial health officials say they conducted more than 12,000 tests in the
last 24 hour period, the highest number to date.
There are currently 938 people in hospital with 252 of those patients in ICU.
However, the number of people on a ventilator remained unchanged at 195.
While the general condition across the province appears to be improving,
the situation within long-term care facilities remains grim.
According to the Ministry of Long-Term Care, a total of 2,520 residents across
the province have tested positive for COVID-19. An additional 29 deaths were
reported on Sunday meaning 654 of the 835 deaths provincially are from
long-term care facilities.
Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, announced that more
than 691,000 people had been tested for COVID-19 and there were almost
46,000 cases across the country with just under 2,500 deaths.
She noted that Canadians were making huge sacrifices to forgo physical contact
with friends and extended family in order to help stop the spread of the virus.
“These actions are starting to pay off, as we are seeing some encouraging results,”
said Tam. “The road is still long, but what we continue to do today will benefit
us tomorrow.”
